Environmental Sustainability

Environmental sustainability is a daily business practice at Wagner. Since 2004, we have embraced green initiatives, beginning with our participation in Wisconsin's "Focus on Energy" program. Collaborating with organizations such as WMEP Manufacturing Solutions and the Wisconsin Sustainable Business Council (WSBC), Wagner has upgraded its facilities and manufacturing equipment and continues to explore new ways to enhance sustainability. Additionally, we offer products and components that qualify for LEED credits.

Some of our most notable accomplishments in our journey to becoming a leading sustainability-focused manufacturer include:

1. Eliminating waterjet services in favor of fiber lasers. Waterjet cutting was an energy-intensive process that produced more than 60 tons of landfill waste annually. By switching to fiber lasers, we have reduced production times, improved raw material utilization, and eliminated landfill waste entirely.

2. Replacing foam packaging systems with an air pouch system. This transition significantly decreased the material used in our packaging processes. The air pouches are made from 95% pre-consumer recycled content and have reduced landfill waste by more than 900 cubic feet each year.

3. Upgrading nearly all metal halide and high-pressure sodium lights to LEDs. This change has cut our energy consumption by nearly 30,000 kilowatt-hours annually. It has also decreased carbon dioxide emissions by approximately 41,500 pounds, sulfur dioxide by 70,000 grams, and nitrogen oxides by 160,000 grams. The environmental impact of removing these pollutants is equivalent to planting five acres of trees.

Wagner Green Masters Program

Wagner has achieved Green Apprentice status in the Green Masters Program, an assessment and recognition initiative for Wisconsin businesses aiming to improve sustainability performance. The program allows organizations to benchmark their performance against others in the same industry.

The Green Masters Program defines sustainability through nine key areas. Participants must take at least one action in each area to obtain and retain their status. Through this program, Wagner has identified strengths while generating ideas for additional improvements in sustainability.

We are proud to be part of the Green Masters Program and to use its standards to drive our efforts toward becoming a more sustainable business.
