Shady
Side Academy is a private school in Pittsburgh that provides a
prestigious learning environment for children in pre-kindergarten to
12th grade. Founded in 1881, this school takes a 21st-century approach that emphasizes research, collaboration and independent study. The academy built The McIlroy Center for Science and Innovation that features college-level equipment for their high school students. A Gold
LEED-certified "green" building with sustainable features that reduce environmental impact while creating teaching opportunities, such as a
rooftop solar array and monitoring system, and a rain garden to collect storm runoff. This new 22,000-square-foot structure features an outdoor amphitheater that provides an ideal interdisciplinary space for classes, performances and guest lectures. Wagner provided multiple illuminated railing solutions to help enhance the courtyard’s navigation after dusk.
Wagner’s Lumenrail® systems feature 1.66” diameter, schedule 40, 316 stainless steel pipe for long-lasting durability. Our Lumenpod®
28 luminaires were chosen to provide life-safety illumination along the pathways outside the science building to ensure optimal visibility for students and faculty. Lumenpod
28 is a point-source luminaire that utilizes LED technology to provide high-quality illumination without the harsh glare from overhead lighting. Fixtures are installed inside the railing for a seamless,
aesthetically pleasing illuminated railing solution. Superior harsh environment protection and vandal resistance ensure Lumenpod 28 will be the trusted light source at Shady Side Academy for years to come.
